Dakota Buttes Visitors Council welcomes you to the center of the Northern Plains, a rugged section of Badlands, buttes and fertile grasslands, where cattle and sheep graze and deer, antelope and buffalo still roam. Bordered by North and South Dakota towns of Hettinger, Lemmon, Bison and Buffalo, this is where Native American people held the last hunts of the majestic, wild buffalo that once roamed the grasslands in great herds.

Swing by Mirror Lake after work for some catch & release in the summer or take the 40 minute trek to the beautiful Shadehill Reservoir to fish the weekend away in sun or snow. Dakota Buttes Museum

Dakota Buttes Museum

The Dakota Buttes Museum is a must see, with a complex of four newly redesigned and refurbished buildings and outdoor exhibits displaying over a century of life and times in Adams County and southwestern North Dakota. The museum is located in southeast Hettinger, at 400 11th Street South, just west of the Armory. The Dakota Buttes Museum houses a rare, horse-drawn fire truck and hose cart, as well as a memorable collection of early Twentieth Century farm machinery, railroad memorabilia, early and mid-century vehicles, and extensive wall displays of Bucyrus, Haynes, Hettinger, Reeder and Lodgepole.

The Hettinger Country Club is a beautiful 9 hole public golf course with grass greens. Golf your way through the course and then head to the Club House for a snack and a drink. The Club House is also available for hosting events and parties.

Thanks to the 4-H students, NDSU Hettinger Extension Services and Park Board for their hard work and volunteerism in the creation of this new and exciting recreational opportunity! Frolf on, folks! Rod & Gun Club

Rod & Gun Club

The Hettinger Rod & Gun Club offers trap shooting each Wednesday night at 7pm. It's open to members and non-members alike. The pistol and rifle range are open to members only. Membership is a nominal fee and may be purchased at Runnings in Hettinger. The range is available for individual and group outings. Call for availability.
Hettinger Movie Theatre

Hettinger Movie Theatre

The Strand Theater in Hettinger burned down in 1984, and almost two decades later, at the end of August in 2002, Men in Black II was the first show in the new movie theater bought, built, and paid for in advance by the Hettinger Theater Foundation and hours of donated time, sweat and dollars. Since it's opening in 2002, the Hettinger Theater has brought thousands of hours of entertainment to Hettinger and the surrounding communities.
